Description

Abbey Road is proud to present this limited-edition print of a Session Sheet created during the recording of the legendary Fela Kuti and The Africa 70’s Live! album. This truly unique 1971 session helped ignite a global movement in Afrobeat, and was recorded, as the title suggests, ‘live’ in Studio Threealongside drummer Ginger Baker and an audience of about 150 people.

The exclusive sheet contains a first-hand account of the session written by producer Jeff Jarratt along with a detailed document containing images and annotation of the personnel, effects, mics and equipment used during the session. It is an exact replica of the original, which has been held within the Abbey Road archives for over 50 years, unseen by the public until now.

On this day, to capture the live performance atmosphere the studio was transformed to resemble clubs where Fela and his twelve-piece band played. A stage was built using risers, leaving space for the invited audience to sit, stand, or dance. To enhance the club vibe, a bar was added, offering free beer and water—an unprecedented move at the time! What resulted was a performance and recording that have gone down in history.

Each replica is Giclée printed on 300gsm Monte Carlo textured watercolour paper, hand torn and cradled with transparent corner holders onto black card.
